The Trip
flash movie project (right click save as)
This blog is on slight hiatus, while deciding where to go from here, as the initial (largely undisclosed) aim doesn’t not quite correspond with reality.
See you in a bit.
Another early task we got was to:
You can check my presentation on issuu or download it directly (pdf).
The second brief we got was to “design a ‘container’ that protects the given article from accidental breakage whilst being an attractive piece of point-of-sale packaging”. The article was a light bulb. The packaging was to be made out of a limited amount of white card only.
The packaging was assessed on visual appeal, how easy it was to open, and its “indestructibility”. The indestructibility was “measured” by first dropping the package from a table, then by being “kicked” by a shoe on a rod (which my package couldn’t handle, as I hadn’t expected it being hit by pointy objects), and lastly by getting a few hundred grams iron weight dropped onto it.
Many lightbulbs were killed during the production.
Sketches and some model photos below.
We have been in uni for about a month now, and it’s about time i update this blog with a few projects, starting off with the first brief we got.
Flight of the Pheonix
Right at the start of the course, we were set to compete in groups of ~4, and asked to make a vehicle that travels as far as possible. It should transport four 1:72 action RAF figures, and be powered by one 12mmx200mm elastic band. The vehicle would have a 2mx1m start zone, and would not be allowed to leave anything behind. The competition would be held at the beach on hard wet sand.
After some brainstorming, my group and I set off with a helium balloon idea. In the end (about the day before the competition) we scrapped that idea however and made a car instead, to ensure that we had something working. Photo below.
We didn’t win, but we did decent. We have gotten another take on making a vehicle however, so stay tuned.
The 10th of September I grabbed my bags and took a flight to Newcastle upon Tyne in England. It’s now been a few weeks and I thought I’d share some of my experiences of the move.
Also, some photos from the flight and from Newcastle below:
